(3/24/19) Sacramento, CA … The Northern Auto Racing Club and King of the West racing series has announced that they have added a new perpetual award to honor late crew chief Billy Albini.  The new Mechanic of the Year award will honor one of the more unheralded positions in sprint car racing.  This award will recognize the mechanical ability and leadership skills needed to drive the success of their team and also their ability to assist others in the pit area.

“I think it’s time to acknowledge some of the great mechanics in sprint car racing,” said Director of Competition Mike Andreetta.  “And the late Billy Albini gives us a great reason to step up and do exactly that.  Billy was the winningest crew chief in King of the West and NARC history with Brent Kaeding and was also instrumental in helping other teams move to the front.  We will be proud to present this award every year to a deserving individual.”

The award which will best be recognized for its gold-plated wrench will be presented at the Championship Awards Brunch on November 3rd.  It also comes with a $1000 cash award.  Andreetta and Chris Good are sponsoring the cash award.
