(8/15/19) Jim Allen, Sacramento, CA … The high-powered 410 sprint cars of the King of the West by NARC Fujitsu Racing Series are about to embark on the most aggressive segment of its 2019 racing schedule with the “Fastest Four Days in Motorsports.” As the name implies, this stretch will feature four racing events, which will be held at three dirt oval tracks in just four short days.
This blitz of open wheel racing excitement kicks off on Wednesday, August 21st at Placerville Speedway with the Gold Country Showdown. The series moves to Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico for Thursday Night Thunder (August 22nd) and concludes with the lucrative two-day Champions Classic at the Stockton Dirt Track (August 23-24th).
Up for grabs will be more than $120,000 in prize money, plus product contingency awards. The first three events pay $5000 to the winner of the 24-car 30-lap Fujitsu-sponsored headliner. Saturday’s Fastest Four Days Finale at Stockton will award a season-high $10,000 in victory lane. In addition, there is a special $6000 Sunnyvalley Bacon fund for the top five point earners in the four-race series, including two grand for the Fastest Four Days in Motorsports champ.
The money and tight-knit flurry of sprint car action has attracted national attention and an assortment of traveling racing teams. Heading the list is NASCAR superstar Kyle Larson (Elk Grove), who is taking advantage of a rare weekend off on the NASCAR schedule to return to his racing roots in California. Larson cut his racing teeth in the Golden State, including winning the King of the West championship in 2010. That helped catapulted his career to the national stage making him one of the most recognizable drivers in America. He will be driving a Sacramento-based car owned by Paul Silva and is a threat to win anytime he puts on his helmet.
Other name-brand travelers expected to compete is World of Outlaw point leader Brad Sweet of Grass Valley, and homegrown national traveler Rico Abreu of Rutherford, CA. Each will be looking to play the role of spoiler and run away with the lions share of the purses. However, they will have their hands full battling against one of the strongest King of the West by NARC driving rosters in recent memory.
In fact, the battle for the 2019 60th Anniversary championship crown rates as one for the ages. The top five drivers in the King of the West by NARC standings are separated by only 12-points. That is the difference between winning and 11th place, and with four consecutive days of racing on tap, every lap and race finish gets magnified tenfold. Hanford’s DJ Netto is the current leader by only three points over Ryan Bernal of Hollister (1116-1113). Roseville’s Willie Croft is seven markers off the pace in third, followed by 2017 champion Bud Kaeding of Campbell and Dominic Scelzi of Fresno. Scelzi has already won three times this year, in a season which has already produced seven different winners in ten rounds.
Others drivers that have already committed to race include Tim Kaeding of San Jose; Sebastopol’s Geoff Ensign; Elk Grove’s Shane Golobic; Colby Copeland and Sean Becker of Roseville; Penngrove’s Buddy Kofoid and Chase Johnson; three-time King of the West champ Jonathan Allard; Nathan Rolfe and Sean Watts of Atwater; Mitchell Faccinto of Hanford; Chico’s Kenny Allen; Tim Estenson of North Dakota; Grass Valley’s Jason Statler; Andy Forsberg and Richard Brace Jr. of Auburn; Sacramento’s Jenna Frazier; Fresno’s Cole Macedo, Kyle Offill of Tracy and many more.
Qualifying is set to get underway at 5:30 p.m. followed by racing at 6:30 p.m. The King of the West by NARC Fujitsu racing program features qualifying, followed by four 10-lap heat races, the popular six-lap “pole-shuffle” dash, a 12-lap last chance qualifier, and the big money 30-lap feature event.
