(6/25/19) Sacramento, CA, Jim Allen … The King of the West-NARC Fujitsu 410 Sprint Car Series and the Sprint Car Challenge Tour 360’s will pair up for a big money show at Placerville Speedway, June 29th for the Marcel Cassulo Classic.  This event will feature every top sprint car driver in California.

More than 60 total teams are expected to tackle the action-packed quarter-mile bullring, battling for more than $45,000 in prize money and contingency awards.  The race also features special lap money awards in honor of the late Marcel Cassulo, a longtime fan of sprint car racing.  The Double-Duty Challenge will award $800 to any driver who can win the 410 and 360 races on the same night.

Placerville Speedway is darn near legendary for it’s frantic action that doesn’t allow drivers to stutter-step for a split-second.  It is not uncommon for the top five cars to be racing inches apart in the same turn.

“Placerville is all about lap traffic,” explains 2017 series champ Bud Kaeding of Campbell, referring to the 24-car feature event. “If you’re running up front, you will reach the tail end of the field in about three-laps and that’s when the fun begins.  You have know when to zig and when to zag, and to be honest with you, there is usually an advantage to not leading early because you’re a target.  Even though we run 11-second laps, we still have to be extremely patient and pick our spots carefully, or we end up being lapped traffic.  It always puts a great show for the fans.”

Leading the King of the West-NARC series will be current championship point leader DJ Netto of Hanford.  Netto has been the most consistent driver in the series this season.  Although he has yet to score an elusive win this season, he has finished in the top six in five of the six races.  He currently leads both Hollister’s Ryan Bernal and Dominic Scelzi of Fresno by 12 points (683-671).

“I can’t say enough about my team this year,” says Netto, a four-time career feature winner.  “I’ve got some great race cars and I just need a small break to get a win.”

The King of the West-NARC 60th Anniversary season has been very unpredictable, posting five different winners.  Stranger is the fact that only two of the top ten teams have won main events, proving that competition is at an all-time high.  Besides Scelzi’s pair of victories, the only other driver in the top ten is Atwater’s Sean Watts, who scored his first career win at Stockton on Saturday night.

Also expected to compete on Saturday is Roseville’s Willie Croft, who thankfully walked away from a frightening racing accident on Saturday in Stockton.  He will be driving a new race car.  Other’s include Shane Golobic of Elk Grove; Sebastopol’s Geoff Ensign; Nathan Rolfe of Atwater; Chico’s Kenny Allen; Hanford’s Mitchell Faccinto; Colby Copeland of Roseville; Grass Valley’s Jason Statler; and Jenna Frazier of Sacramento.

The KWS-NARC racing format will include qualifying, three 10-lap heat races, the six-lap Sunnyvalley Bacon dash, a 12-lap last chance race, followed by the $3,000 to win Fujitsu headliner.

Pit gates open at 2:00 p.m. an front gates open at 3:00 p.m.
