5/28/19, Sacramento, CA (Jim Allen) …  The high-powered 950-horsepower King of the West-NARC Fujitsu 410 Sprint Car Series will battle wheel-to-wheel this Saturday, June 1st, when the traveling series invades the always exciting Petaluma Speedway.

This marks the first of only two appearances at Petaluma for the series which is celebrating its 60th Anniversary season.  Interesting enough, despite it being June, the King of the West-NARC campaign only has two races under its belt in 2019 due to unpredictable weather.  However, competition will be ramping up quickly with five races scheduled at five different tracks during June.

“We are looking forward to getting some momentum going as far as the racing schedule goes,” explains DJ Netto of Hanford, the current King of the West-NARC championship point leader.  “Like all race teams and fans, we would rather be headed to a race track on Saturday than home watching the Weather Channel.”

Netto will be leading a strong field of competitors into Petaluma, including Shane Golobic of Elk Grove.  Golobic, who has one of the busiest racing schedules in the nation, trails Netto by a single point in the standings (229-228.)  Unfortunately, Golobic will drop out of the championship battle because of prior racing commitments in Indiana.

Others in the hunt will be Hollister’s Ryan Bernal, 2017 series champion Bud Kaeding of Campbell, and rookie driver Geoff Ensign of Sebastopol.  Ensign is a former Petaluma Speedway track champion in a 360 sprint car and should be regarded as a favorite considering he knows every inch of the 3/8 dirt oval.

Chase Johnson of Penngrove, who won his first and only KWS-NARC win in 2017, is looking to duplicate that effort.  Johnson has already won several races in a variety of open wheel race cars this season.  Dominic Scelzi of Fresno, who is driving for defending car owner champion Dennis Roth, also has high expectations as he attempts to move up the points ladder.

“Petaluma Speedway can be your best friend or worst enemy,” explains Scelzi.  “It’s always very racy and there is usually a couple of different lines that can be run.  However, if you miss the mark or set up just once, you can get in trouble and backpedal in a hurry.”

Other entries include Roseville drivers Willie Croft and Colby Copeland; Nathan Rolfe and Sean Watts of Atwater; Kyle Offill of Tracy; Sacramento area drivers Stephen Ingraham and Jenna Frazier; Kenny Allen of Chico and many more.  Up for grabs will be more than $21,000 in prize money and contingency awards.

The racing program will include qualifying, three 10-lap heat races, a trophy dash, and the 30-lap Fujitsu headliner that will pay $3000 to the winner.  Also on the racing card are Modifieds, Dwarf Cars, and Mini-Stocks.  Pit gates open at noon.  Front gates open at 4:00 p.m.  Racing gets underway at 6:00 p.m.

Petaluma Speedway is located at 100 Fairgrounds Drive in Petaluma.  For more information, go to Petaluma-Speedway.com. or call 707-763-7223.
